Medical device for fluid removal in renal and cardiovascular disease treatment
Synopsis
Traditional drug based (diuretic) fluid management techniques have substantial problems, and in some cases don't work at all. Having some alternative device-based approach for fluid management could revolutionize treatment regimes in both renal and cardiovascular disease. The company is developing a microneedle patch technology that can access fluid in the skin and transport it to an absorbent in large quantities. It is painless and can be worn during daily life, when out and about. Applications include an alternative to diuretics, augmentation of diuretics or dialysis to reduce hospital visits and supportive care upon kidney failure when dialysis is not possible.
Status
The concept has been proven in man using a combination of human in-vivo and in-vitro testing and uses an extremely novel microneedle patch design. The company is preparing for a major fundraising in 2013 and that investment will fund continued product development, further clinical trials and management team development.
